Noted for his work with the Herbie Hancock Quartet in the 2000s, he's been dubbed "a major rhythm voice on the rise" by Downbeat magazine, and The Guardian (UK) praises "the arrival of a major innovator who also knows how to have fun."
Originally from Kfar Saba, Israel, bassist and composer Daniel Ori’s first exposures to music were classical piano recitals at his grandmother’s apartment in Tel-Aviv. Since moving to New York in 2008, Daniel's music has been described as fresh, communicative, lyrical and rhythmic—a blend of modern jazz with deep Middle Eastern roots and pan African influences.

"In Joey Weisenberg’s Open Studio Sessions, a weekly online music-making event, songwriting is interspersed with dialogue and questions. More than interludes or pleasant distractions, these conversations are themselves building blocks to the compositional process. ... The intention is to foster a melodic and joyous encounter with liturgy, an auditory refresh on familiar text... Open Studio Sessions, occurring weekly and accessible to subscribers, illustrate the central premise of Rising Song’s identity: that music-making be a communal endeavor, even in the earliest stages of composing."
